Trends for Halloween retail spending
Each year the National Retail Federation conducts a survey on Halloween retail spending. As you can see, people obviously seem to enjoy Halloween and expect to spend more on Halloween items like candy or costumes than they did at any time in history. A scary 71.5% of Americans planned to celebrate Halloween in 2012, up from 68.6% in 2011 and 64% in 2010.
In 2012, 15% will even put a costume on their pet. The most popular pet costume was a pumpkin (12.7%), devil (6.9%) or hot dog (5.7%). 3.7% dressed their dog up like a cat.
